ALIENS: VOYAGE IN TIME   (BOOK ONE) Page 20

I started writing this Alien Fan Fiction (I am a huge Alien fan) back in the early 1990s. I have been updating it. The premise of the story is what if Aliens, Colonial Marines, and the 19th century were to meet?

fire and cannons to erupt, lighting up the once peaceful darkness.  The cannons strikes a group of aliens making their way near the entrance of the fort. The aliens’ lethal blood spins and shoots through the night air, striking the fortress’ gates.

The aliens that do make it through the bombardment storm the fortress’ gates, screeching and howling. From over the tops of the forest trees, flying alien swoop overhead. A few are shot down by cannon fire; their bodies, flaming brightly, fall to the earth.  The surviving flyers dive down on the soldiers manning the cannons, gutting them with their sharp tails.

Everywhere is the sickening sound of pain and suffering.

“Lt. Thomas, sound the retreat!” Captain Kilroy hollers, firing his musket at the invading aliens.

“Yes, Captain!” The Lt. raises his bugle to sound the retreat, but suddenly from overhead an alien pounces on him. Severed by a swift swing of the alien’s deadly tail, the Lt.’s head falls to the ground; his knees buckle and he lands, chest first, onto the hard ground.

Captain Kilroy watches, as his first mate slowly dies, a pool of freshly drawn blood all around him; he raises his musket at the alien and fires it at the monster’s head.  The alien is sent back a couple steps, shakes his head and opens his mouth, exposing four shiny rows of razor sharp teeth.

“What in blazes are you?” Kilroy questions the creature.

From behind Kilroy another alien appears; unmercifully it sends its flipper like claws upward and into captain’s body, splicing the man into three parts.

Although the Lt. had never got the chance to sound the retreat, the soldiers in the outpost begging to fall back into defensive units, pointing their muskets at the charging aliens.

“Fire at will, men!” The remaining leader, Corporal Higgins cries out.

The winter wind moves over the outpost, sending chills up every soldier assigned to his post. The sound of the wilderness is the only entertainment the soldiers have to enjoy; and the stars above the only light.

“Sir,” Private First Class Mitchel reports, saluting his commander.

          “Yes, Private?” Captain Kilroy replies.

“The reconnaissance team hasn’t reported back, and it’s been two hours since they left the outpost.”

“Notify Lt. Thomas that the camp is going on full alert,” The captain tells him.

“Yes Captain,” the man salutes and quickly turns to locate Lt. Thomas.

Suddenly a horrific scream escapes the innards of the dark wilderness.  The sound of improbable pain awakens the sentries from their light slumbers.

One of the sentries yells out from on top of his lookout, “Its Gilmore! He’s running away from something!”

Gilmore’s eyes are full of fear.  Blood is splattered all over his body, his clothing torn to shreds.

With what little energy Gilmore still seems to possess, the man hollers out of his comrades of the eminent danger that is about to befall them all.

“The serpents are coming!” The man screams.

The soldiers in the camp ready their guns, aiming them at the dark woods behind the panicky Gilmore.           And then the first hoard of serpents, ripping their way through the heavy umbrage of the woods, appear.  Gilmore spins around and falls on his back. Within seconds his body is overrun by aliens and quickly torn apart.  Body parts are flinging everywhere as blood explodes all around.  From the fort, muskets begin to

The general straightens himself and asks, “What do you plan to do about these aliens, Lt. Stall.”)

“Since the creatures have no idea that they had been followed back in time, it leaves us with the element of surprise.”

“What about the aliens you first encountered upon entering our time? They know that you and your men have arrived,” General Armstrong reminds him.

“We scanned the area for any possible retreating Shal and found none that could inform more of their kind about the crew and I.

“All aliens that had attack the warship are now dead”.

“That sounds good. But where would this ambush take place, Lt.?”

“Twenty miles northwest of Okeechobee Lake.”

“We do have an outpost around there. You and your crew could possibly back up the outpost in case of any alien attack.”

“Then you agree with my plan?”

“I am placing you totally in charge of the campaign, Captain Stall,”

“Thank you, Sir,” Stall salutes, “I will ready my men.”

General Armstrong smiles and salutes back the newly appointed captain.

I started writing this Alien Fan Fiction (I am a huge Alien fan) back in the early 1990s. I have been updating it. The premise of the story is what if Aliens, Colonial Marines, and the 19th century were to meet?

RECAP: The older general, General Armstrong, sits up and says, “I have been informed of the nature of this visit: Lt. Stall, you and your crew have arrived from Earth’s future, chasing after a hoard of creatures from outer space – what we in our time have been calling sea serpents.

And that these demons from outer space may attempt to invade northwest Florida. Why northwest Florida, Lt.?”

Page 17

“ I am well versed in the behavioral patterns of the aliens, General. They tend to trek northward, away from the rising sun.

“I haven’t discovered why exactly yet, but I do have some ideas”

“And those are?” Lt. General Overstreet asks, his eyebrows rising.

“They fear sunlight. Like roaches that fear the light.

“I think the Shal love cold weather, General. That’s probably the reason the aliens travel northward.

“All I can relate to you and your fellow officers is the facts. And the facts are that the Shal, as in our time, tends to move northwest.

“Only just recently we had the monsters on the retreat, moving westwardly.

“Captain Abraham did inform me that there have been numerous attacks near Lake Okeechobee,” Stall tells him.

“Yes, but we were able to regain that land back.”

“At what cost, Sir?”

“Five hundred men were killed, and thousands wounded. We were able to capture a few aliens’ alive, “ General Overstreet answers.

“What exactly are your plans, Lt. Stall?” The younger of the three officers, Colonel Smith, asks.”

“You have some alive?” Stall asks, a look of concern on his face.

“Yes”, the old general answers.

“Why haven’t you destroyed them?”

“Scientific research, Lt.. Those creatures can teach us a lot about the nature of their attacks.”

Stall frowns, “I suppose there is need for such research.”

The general straightens himself and asks, “What do you plan to do about these aliens, Lt. Stall.”

RECAP: “How can that be? It’s impossible it is impossible to travel at such speed,” Abraham says, shaking his head. But then he remembers, this is not your regular warship, you old fool.

Page 16

“ I forgot too soon, Lt. Stall. The speed of transportation should have, by your present time, surely increased. Such an astounding future.”

“Not with those bugs flying around,’ Stall tells him.

“I will be there in a minute. Lt. Stall. Is Lt. Prayer with you?”

Prayer peers into the monitor, exposing himself to Captain Abraham, and says,

“Yes, Captain. Are you feeling better?”

‘Yes”.

Lt. Prayer back away from the monitor, allowing Lt. Stall to speak. “See you in a little bit, Sir. Out”.

The monitor in front of Captain Abraham suddenly darkens.

As he enters the conference room, with Sergeant Wu and Corporal Able at his side two generals and a colonel greet Lt. Stall; the three officers are standing around the conference table at the far end of the conference room.  Noting the three high-ranking officers, Stall, Wu, and Corp. Able respectfully salute.

“At ease,” the older general tells them. “ Please be seated.”

The old general smiles and proffers the seats around the table to the space marines.

“I am General Benjamin D. Armstrong. This is Lt. General Joseph Overstreet, and Colonel Robert G. Smith.

“Generals, Colonel, we may come as a shock, but believe me, we are definitely real,” Lt. Stall replies.

The older general, General Armstrong, sits up and says, “I have been informed of the nature of this visit: Lt. Stall, you and your crew have arrived from Earth’s future, chasing after a hoard of creatures from outer space – what we in our time have been calling sea serpents.

Entry file number 176.2: The Captain has experienced his first dose of airsickness. He vomited all over the laboratory.

I had him helped to Dr. Rojas.  Fortunately, the good doctor quickly cured him of it. End entry.

“How are you feeling, Sir?” Dr. Rojas asks Abraham.

“I’ve never been too keen on heights, Doctor, but I do believe I am feeling much better.”

“The motion takes time to get used to, Sir.”

“It’s not like the comforts of home. Home being the sea, Doctor.” Abraham replies.

I must agree with you sir, Air travel is truly unlike sea travel.

“I prefer not to fly if I have to,” Rojas says to him.

The abruptness of the tele-monitor coming on interrupts the conversation. Lt. Stall’s face fills the screen.

“Sir, we are approaching St. Augustine.  I will need you in the control room to help us with further directions to Ft. St. Augustine.

“Are you capable of such a task, Sir?” Stall asks him.

“Yes”. Abraham gets up and plants his two feet on the cold floor. “I will be right there. I must have been asleep for at least three days.”

“Two and half hours, Captain,” Stall informs him.

“How can that be? It’s impossible it is impossible to travel at such speed,” Abraham says, shaking his head. But then he remembers, this is not your regular warship, you old fool.

Captain Abraham nods and turns to Lt. Stall, “The aliens, where do they come from?”

Page 14

“Outer space, Sir.  We have no information, yet, that can explain where the creatures originally came from. We only know that they are not from Earth.

The Shal was taken back in time as we had been, but four months sooner.”

“Those damn things have taken over all of southeast Florida.”

“Almost half of Florida, already?” Wu interjects.

“Half, yes. From Palm Beach to the Florida Keys.

“Our warship has been patrolling of the Floridian shores for the past four days.

“Luckily, the U.S.S. Cornerstone was here to rescue us from a serpent attack. I am sorry—a Shal attack,” Captain Abraham replies.

“Have you located the Shal’s stronghold?” Lt. Stall asks.

“Scout reports indicate that the creatures may be working out of the northwest Lake Okeechobee.  There have been numerous attacks on infantry battalions and Marine Guards in and near that area. I’d say about two a day.”

“The Shal may be planning an invasion into northwest Florida; they’re likely to continue on a northwest trek through Florida, reaching the west coast and beyond,” Stall tells him as he draws a diagonal line from the bottom part of the lake to the other side of the large peninsula.

“You are the expert in the field; I can alert the President and the Chiefs of Staff of your theories once we reach St. Augustine. From there we can prepare for battle.” Captain Abraham tells Lt. Stall.

“If my memory of American History is still good, I believe that would be President Filmore. Am I right?”

“Very good, Lt.,” Captain Abraham smiles, and he is offered a seat by one of the controller.

“It is all so hard to believe, Captain, but what else could explain all this madness?” Lt. Prayer asks, finally saying something.

“You agree to soon, Lt. Prayer.”

“Listen to your first office, Captain Abraham. We may be the only people that can stop those things.

“Let us help you,” Stall extends his hand once again.

Abraham takes it and says, “Please.”

“Welcome onboard the Cornerstone, Captain Abraham. It’s the state of the art in killing.

‘Only the best for the Corp, Sir.”

Abraham peers in, awed, and utters, “Fantastical.”

The Captain steps in, greeted by Marine Corp stares and grunt faces. Each man at attention and ready to salute the high-ranking Captain.

“At ease soldiers,” Captain Abraham assures them.

Spotting an unusual thing, Abraham points at it and says, “What is that thing – glowing? That sound?”

“That, Sir, is a sonar monitor. It picks up signals of moving and stationary objects; after which, it can alert Sergeant Wu of the incoming objects.”

“Fish, whales and of course, aliens.”

“When you refer to the aliens, you mean the serpents, correct?”

“Yes, Captain,” The marine replies.

“The Shale?”

“Shal, Captain. Like, I shall do this now.”

Captain Abraham nods and turns to Lt. Stall, “The aliens, where do they come from?”

RECAP: Lt. Stall begins to remember the vortex sucking the Cornerstone out of the depths of the ocean; he figures that the vortex may have done something. Possibly a shift in the time stream? What do I know about the time stream anyhow?

Page 12

Knowing that what he is about to say may sound ludicrous, Lt. Stalls asks, “What year is this, Cap—“ he pauses to think, “I never got your name, Sir.”

“Phillip Abraham.”

“Captain Abraham, what year is this?”

“What ever do you mean? The second day of February 1851, of course. What did you think it was?”

“March 13, 2068. I believe we’ve traveled back in time. Somehow, someway.

“At what time did you and your people first encounter the aliens—I am sorry – the sea serpents?” Stall asks.

“Four months ago.” Captain Abraham replies. “Why?”

“That’s the reason why there are so many of those things.  The serpents must have multiplied during their first months here.”

The Captain raises his eyebrows and says, “Don’t all animals.”

“Sir,” Stall motions for the Sergeant to come to him, “We are from the Earth’s future.

“Let me explain how. Are vessel was caught in an electrical storm, and then siphoned into the air by an electrical spout.

“The next thing we know, our warship is spat out here. In your time.”

“Is this witchery of some sort?” Captain Abraham asks. His hands begin to grip the handle of his rifle a little harder, raising it at Stall.

“Why would witches save your crew from sea serpents? No Sir, We are definitely not witches. I don’t believe that witches of whom you speak of truly exist, anyhow.  What I do believe in are those serpents.”

“On our Earth the sea serpents that you speak of are, in reality, space bugs that had mated with Earth whales.

“Aye, aye, Sir. As regulated as they come,” Crane replies.

Page 11

The Sergeant, Lt. Stall, and a small escort of marines, hustle onto the upper deck, their pulse rifles ready to blast away at the slightest alien interruption.

“Captain,” Stall salutes him and extends his hand for a friendly handshake. “I’m Lt. Michael P. Stall. Why in the name of God have you been firing on us?”

The Captain raises his eyebrows and replies, “We thought you were those damn demons!”

The captain looks to Lt. Stall and asks, “How many dead, Lt. Stall?”

“Eight S.H.A.L were destroyed..” Stall is cut short by Captain Abraham.

“Eight what?”

“I’m sorry, Sir. The aliens, I’ve codenamed them S.H.A.L… Short for submersible hostile alien lifeform.”

“Have you gone totally mad Lt. ?  Aliens? Life from another planet.

“Those were serpents, Lt.”

‘Sea serpents’  Stall thinks to himself. ‘What is this man talking about?

“By the way, what’s with the old warship; and the early nineteenth century attire you and your crew are wearing? Some kind of party?”

“Nothing is the matter,” Captain Abraham looks at Private Crane and says, “What the crew and I are wearing is regulation. But I believe you are all the aliens. You and your so-called Marines.”

The Lt., greatly confused, looks at the man. And says, “Regulation?”

Approaching Sergeant Wu, Corporal Able says to him, sounding confused, “Tipy says, Sergeant, that the Captain, here, says he hasn’t the slightest idea how those men’s voices were able to come out of our battle helmets.”
