The Lonely Music
From Rhythm And Dime, And Then Some Slime and Other Scanned Poems 1985-
I myself is singing, the birds are remembering to listen from up above
On their family trees.
The trumpet blowers turning green and blue, the sound of music sways like a
Dance to remember, a sentence to say, a poem to recite, and story
To read, flower to pick, a sun to rise, a bone to pick, a skin so
Thick, a rise in salary, and last but not least an only chance.
My tears that had fallen, as the music continues, gather together like
A cluster of bright new born stars, a waterfall down into the river flow,
Spread like peanut butter on bread into the vast oceans of eternity.
From this long road a lovely person as tall as me wonders endless night
Ahead.
The moon is my only companion, the stars twinkle like a diamond does
Sparkle, and I am so lonesome and so tired I can die.
As I decide, my mind slowly melts into water, my eyes have been warned so many
Times a curfew seems in order.
Brainless butt heads cowering in dark circles, their ears wide
Open, listening to my sad chorus, to the sad notes playing
Patty cake in the misty, fogy, darkness of night. Switch blades
Hanging from their belts, machine guns lain on the ground, un armed.
And to my surprise the redness in their eyes have disappeared.
I feel no need for the comfort my mother demonstrates. I feel no need
For the sun to shine any longer.

The Crippled Minded One
From Bloody Thoughts by Arturo Hernandez 1995–
I must be crippled in the mind
I think and think and see all sorts of signs
Telling me beware, telling me take care,
Slash them to pieces, Jesus! And I dare.
I must be crippled in the upstairs.
No life left up there.
Just mental strokes of insanity,
I blame them for this calamity!
I believe I must be completely crippled,
For my mind thinks in double and triple.
Thinks about suffering.
Thinks about murdering.
I am starting to think otherwise.
It’s all cool right up inside in there,
No need to panic anymore,
No need to take score.
I know now what must be done,
This race we call us must come undone,
This blood in our veins should all come to rot,
This flesh keeping me sane must be unlocked.
I now know all these crippled thoughts
Mustn’t just be madness my mind has bought.
I will do what must come to heart
I must do it now before my head comes apart!

Corruption
From Uneasy Thoughts by Arturo Hernandez 1999
Corruption, eruption, destruction, pure disruption
fires everywhere, smoke rising into the air,
babies dying, bombs diving, limbs flaming,
I’ve done my job correctly,
you can call me evil if need be,
i’ve detonated the explosive,
death spectacular impressive,
they call me the Devil,
I call them the Axis of Evil,
I lie to their faces,
in high up places,
dining with the well off,
while others choke and cough,
I’ve done my job expertly,
i see my life inversely
they call me the devil,
I call them the liberals,
but what i am is not much,
upstairs there’s not a bunch.
i stand on the hill,
throwing bodies into hell,
smirking,
jerking
others all around,
with my awful sound,
and dreadful pound,
of my nauseating voice,
they have no choice,
and once they did,
but I won instead,
they call me the devil,
i call them all evil,
its in my blood,
this raging flood,
of low count cells,
and cancer spells,
in my veins they rush,
the cocaine hush, hush,
they call me stupid,
i am ruler instead,
they bombed my towers,
killing so many others,
innocent people,
screaming people,
I am the devil,
dum as can be.
Yet I believe,
The Devil’s smarter than me.
